*!&^%$£, the Flash didn't work!
In the 1970s our camera’s were very basic things. Compared to what I carry around today in my phone, let alone my pro photo kit – these things were simple. Flash technology was a bit hit and miss, we used Magicubes.
These were basically small explosive devices used to light our subject. At the base of each flash bulb is a tiny primer, made of fulminate, a friction-triggered explosive!

Online editor’s note: The physical albums were adorned by multiple little hairy creatures called Irwin. I became adept at drawing these little green and pink characters. However, I must confess that theses are not my creations, but adaptations of a character in Russell Myers’ cartoon series Broom Hilda. I will however, allow myself one image (or maybe two) to serves as a reminder and a homage to one of the great comic strips.
