At the end of January our good friends Mat Bayfield and Kelly Pritchard became Mr. & Mrs. Bayfield at an intimate wedding ceremony in St. Andrew’s Church on the Glemham Estate in Suffolk.
One could almost describe the Glemham Estate as the spiritual, if not ancestral home of the Bayfield family! Mat grew up there where his grandfather was head gamekeeper, immortalised in Mat’s song ‘Keeper Jack’.
In case you are not aware, in 2012 Mat was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Everyone handles news like this differently but Mat’s positive attitude and catch phrase
“Life Is Not a Rehearsal”
led to some inspirational things happening across the county.
He began by attempting to raise £1,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity by hosting a series of walks and talks. Such a simple idea. Meet at a location and go for a walk with friends and family while Mat chatted about his beloved Suffolk countryside.
In January 2017 more than five hundred people turned out at Glemham Hall for what would be the biggest of the walks. An event that saw that £1,000 target pushed beyond £20,000.
Mat’s health deteriorated during 2017 but not his spirit – he even conducted a Facebook live broadcast from the ambulance bringing him to an appointment at a London hospital! The Walk’n’Talks went on the back burner for a while – oh, and he asked Kelly to marry him.
The wedding was a small affair and the couple were concerned that they could not invite as many of their friends and family as they would have liked to share their special day with.
It was then that the germ of an idea began to form…. what if…
And so was born The Wedding March – what we hope will be the biggest Walk’n’Talk to date! We would like to see well over 1,000 people turn up at Wantisden Valley on Saturday 10th March to help celebrate their wedding and raise even more money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Just think – if everyone were to put £10 in a collection bucket…
Turn up from 10am for a walk that stats at 11am around Wantisden Valley. It’s a 3½ mile walk which is family & dog friendly. Bring a plate of food to share – make it yourself or buy it from your corner shop, we don’t mind. The bar will be open, there will be live entertainment – we might even convince Mat to sing a song or two!
